Curtain Call (最後の称賛, Saigo no Shōsan) is the 56th chapter of the Kekkaishi Manga written and illustrated by Yellow Tanabe.
As Mr. Kurosu begins his class, Yoshimori notices a black cat on the teacher's shoulder. Since no one (other than Yurina Kanda) reacts to the cat, Yoshimori realizes it must be a ghost. However, Mr. Kurosu denies ever having a cat. Yoshimori notes it is difficult to remove ghosts that attach themselves to humans.
After class, Yoshimori tries to discover why the cat hasn't passed on. He asks Mr. Kurosu for advice on raising a cat. Gen Shishio passes by and tries to destroy the cat, but Yoshimori drags him away and tells him not to. Gen warns him that the ghost can only become more dangerous. Yoshimori insists he will handle it his way.
Yoshimori meets with Mr. Kurosu after school and specifically asks about black cats. This reminds Mr. Kurosu that there was a black cat around the school that he befriended. He mentions he hasn't seen the cat lately, and Yoshimori doesn't want to tell him why. However, while later speaking with Ms. Aoki, Mr. Kurosu finds out that the cat was hit by a car and died.
Yoshimori and Gen wait outside that afternoon, watching Mr. Kurosu and the cat ghost. Mr. Kurosu fondly recalls his memories of the cat (which had had named Nuwaru), most of which were him giving it various compliments. He finds a dead sparrow and realizes it must be a gift from Nuwaru. He compliments Nuwaru one last time, which allows the cat to pass on. Yoshimori suspects the cat was waiting for that, and is glad he didn't need to interfere. Mr. Kurosu decides to bury the sparrow. Yoshimori is shocked the next day to see the sparrow's ghost on Mr. Kurosu's shoulder.
